Andrew Barbash, MD, Chief Executive Officer
A practicing Neurologist and the MedicalDirector of a Stroke Care Program in Maryland. Until 2001, he was a Vice President of the Medical Group for Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States. Dr. Barbash managed the development and deployment of the electronic medical record for the region. He is also very active in the eHealth, mobile health and
personal health records arena and has served on national level workgroups related to consumer information empowerment and e-health. He completed his B.A. at Bowdoin College, his M.D. at Northwestern University and his Neurology Residency at the Mayo Clinic.
Robert L. Smith, MD, MS, Chief Medical Officer
Besides practicing full-time Family Medicine in the heart of the Finger Lakes in Western New York, Dr. Smith also dedicates his professional time towards assisting other practices upgrade their information workflow systems to

His passion outside of direct patient care is the redesign of medical office workflow patterns in order to increase patient satisfaction and safety, and to enhance physician productivity. Dr. Smith's role as the Chief Medical Officer for Apractis Solutions, LLC includes assisting with the development and implementation of tools to assist physician-physician and patient-physician communication. Dr. Smith has assisted countless ambulatory medical offices, hospital
systems, and professional firms in transforming their antiquated and inneficient systems into what works in the real world of real-time clinical medicine.
Richard Plaatsman, Workflow Consultant
Dick brings 35 years of senior Healthcaremanagement and operational consulting experience to Apractis™. Most recently, he was a consultant in the application of technology to improve operations with hospitals and physician offices. His experience with Medco as a Senior Consultant brought him before senior management of Tenet and many of its Southern
division hospitals as well as many private practice medical offices. Prior to starting his own consulting business, Dick was the CEO of North CentralBronx Hospital and, preceding that the CEO of Jersey City Medical Center.Dick did his undergraduate work at Seton Hall University and obtained an M.S. in Healthcare Administration at WagnerCollege. As a married father of successful twin daughters, Dick considers himself to be "very fortunate to be part of this age of transition in healthcare".
Darryl Strickland, Technology Consultant
Darryl brings 20 years of experience andknowledge in database, application, network, EDI, and project management across the entire spectrum of information management. Darryl has played an instrumental role in developing and designing major business systems in the manufacturing, internet, and medical industries. During the last 10 years, Darryl has
held several executive level positions while leading these organizations with innovative ideas and technologically advanced systems. Many of these systems were real-time, high-volume, performance critical applications that had to be implemented in a fault-tolerant network design that required a 24-7 operation. Darryl’s vision and execution will be instrumental in Apractis™ delivering cutting-edge technologies, seamless integrations with business partners, and user friendly web experiences.
Phil Ng, Technology Consultant
Phil brings years of experience with designing and maintaining advanced medical office networks. His experience with all of Apractis Solutions technologies makes him well adapted to assist other members in truly designing a workflow that works with all of the technologies they have withint the framework of their own particular office.
